8. Introduction

Throughout this course you were introduced to concepts around data protection and responsible data handling (Session 1). If you completed all sessions you learned how to assess risks around the processing of data (Session 2 and Session 3) and how to take decisions on how to handle data in a responsible manner (Session 4). Furthermore, you were introduced to three approaches to increase privacy and data security, by using measures of de-identification (Session 5), applying consent in a pro-active manner (Session 6), and using access control and data management principles to strengthen data security (Session 7). In this last session, let’s build up on these points and use this knowledge to translate it into a strategic approach of integrating responsible data management in your institution (in some cases it might be rather about integrating these aspects in your already existing digital or data policy).
